Enabling students to learn the Indian traditional Mathematics, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the UP Board’s plan to introduce Vedic Mathematics as an optional subject for classes IX to XII.

While the students will learn Vedic Mathematics from the upcoming academic session, the subject will make students familiar with traditional Indian Mathematics.

“The syllabus of Vedic Mathematics has been finalized and the approval of state government for introducing the new subject was received today,” UP Board secretary Neena Srivastava told Hindustan Times on Monday.

However, the UP Board has removed Elementary Mathematics from High School Syllabus.

While the change in the syllabus has been brought about as a result of the implementation of NCERT syllabus for the board students, the Elementary Mathematics was considered to be easier in comparison to Mathematics.

There will be no board exam paper for Elementary Mathematics from 2020 onwards, reports NDTV.

The decision comes a few days after the board cancelled the UP Board Class X Science paper and UP Board Class XII Physics Paper I and II for Maharajganj district and Chandauli district respectively, following paper leak reports.
