UGC Releases Fake Universities List, Check the Name of These Unrecognized Institutions

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially released the list of 23 Fake Universities currently operating in 8 different states of India. 

The commission has issued the list of these  23 “self-styled, unrecognized institutions” functioning in contravention of the UGC Act. Commission has informed students about these unrecognized institutions functioning in various parts of the country 

According to the notice issued by the commission, The University Grants Commission Act, 1956 under section 22 (1) provides that a degree can be awarded, only by a University established under a Central, State/ Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be university under section 3 of the UGC Act or an Institution especially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer the degree.

Also, Section 23 of the UGC Act prohibits the use of the word ‘University’ by any unrecognized institution or any Fake University.

Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of fake universities, i.e., 8, followed by Delhi with 7 fake universities after that Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha and Puducherry in the list.

These institutions have been declared as Fake Universities by the commission. Further, they are not entitled to confer any degree to students. The commission has stated that the public at large is informed not to take admission in these fake universities.
