Uttarakhand government has set a target of preparing 2000 small solar energy producers in the state by 2016. The initiative was taken by the Chief Minister Harish Rawat, according to him it will not only create new entrepreneurs but also boost power generation.
Rawat made announcement of this new initiative while reviewing various programmes being run by the Uttarakhand Renewable Development Agency in Dehradun. He said to translate this vision into a reality, subsidy will be given for solar power plants with a capacity up to five kilowatt and marketing facilities will be provided for the power generated by them.
Chief Minister also added that , an industry will also be set up with the help of SIDCUL at Bhimtal and Kotdwar to manufacture solar panels.
Rawat also made it clear that drinking water and power shortage problems are the priorities of the state government, and special efforts will have to be made to achieve the goal.
A scheme for distributing dish solar cookers among housewives all over the state should also be launched, the CM expressed.
