SRCC, DU Organised National Symposium on ‘Dimensions of Quality in Higher Education in India’

In pursuit of its vision ‘to build and ensure a quality culture aimed at all round excellence at the institutional level’, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi University recently organised a National Symposium.

The seminar addressed the various dimensions of quality in higher education in India in contemporary times.

The objective was to learn from the multidimensional perspectives from the relevant stakeholders of different areas associated with the dimensions of quality in Institutions providing higher education.

The Symposium emphasised on the areas of quality as envisioned by the New National Policy on Education, 2016 and the Vision Document framework of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, 2017 such as pedagogy of higher education, role of research, social inclusiveness, role of infrastructure and the role of administration etc.

In the quality of higher education by the college facilitated the discussion from the experts from the spheres of academia, professional institutions, industry, and policy makers from India and abroad.

The Symposium commenced with the opening address by the Principal, SRCC, Simrit Kaur, who outlined her vision towards quality in the institution and education sector.
Speaking as the Keynote speaker at the Symposium, Kavita A Sharma, President, South Asian University, highlighted the evolution of education 4.0 from rote learning. She also emphasised the role of research and global inclusiveness in the formulation of quality initiatives in the framework of higher education.

The panel discussion followed after the keynotes addressed by I M Pandey, Director General, Delhi School of Business & Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, Former Dean & Professor, IIM-Ahmedabad, K V Bhanu Murthy, Delhi Technological University, Ex-Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Business Studies, Erik Azulay, Director, NEXUS Entrepreneurship Training Facility, American Centre, Stewert Davis Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, Embassy of the United States of America and Abhimanyu Sharaff, Director, Sanden Vikas (India) Limited.

The panel contemplated the various perspectives of quality and the methods to improve the innovativeness and employability of education in addition to capacity building and knowledge creation.

Delivering a special lecture at the post lunch session of the Symposium, Dhiraj Nayyar, Head and OSD, Economics Commerce and International trade stressed the role of competition and autonomy as an alternative to enhance quality in the education sector.

Additionally, Gitanjali Sen, Assistant Professor at Shiv Nadar University, presented a paper on the role of social inclusiveness as a determinant factor in developing quality in the institutions of higher education.

Speaking to the media, Rachna Jawa, Coordinator, IQAC, SRCC and Symposium Director, shared that the discussions at the Symposium had been planned keeping in mind the multifaceted dimensions of quality in higher education which would generate a wide range of synergetic perspectives from the relevant stakeholders in the education community with the deliberations focussing on quality sustenance and enhancement in the Institutions of higher education in the country and converging the expectations of the stakeholders towards creation of value driven education adaptable for the global scenario.

The Symposium is one of the quality enhancement measures in the College taken by the IQAC of the SRCC post the NAAC accreditation of the College with a grade of A+, the highest in the University of Delhi.
