Hiring activity in India increased by 13 per cent in January 2014 over the previous month and is poised to improve this year, says a report.
The Naukri Job Speak Index, which tracks monthly hiring activities online, for the month of January 2014 was at 1,466 showing 13 per cent increase in hiring activity over December 2013.
On a year-on-year basis, there was a 15 per cent increase in hiring activity when compared to January 2013.
The Naukri Job Speak Index for the past three months has grown at an average of 4 per cent month on month and in the months to come hiring landscape of the country is likely to increase post elections.
“The upcoming national elections coupled with the improvement in the global economic conditions will help to ameliorate the hiring landscape in India,” Info Edge (India) Group President Finance and CFO Ambarish Raghuvanshi said.

“Post general elections companies will probably start their expansion process which will concomitantly generate demand for talent. The hiring scenario in India in 2014 is likely to be better then its been in the last two years,” he said.
Amongst industries, IT software and BPO continue to witness a growth with the index moving up by 18 per cent and 13 per cent month-on-month respectively.
In terms of decline, telecom witnessed a dip with the index moving down sharply by 23 per cent and the auto sector which saw a marginal decline of 3 per cent month-on-month respectively.
In terms of functional area, the demand for professionals working in sales and business development and project management continued to grow with the index moving up by 19 per cent and 18 per cent in January 2014 as compared to December 2013.
Among metros, Kolkata and Hyderabad witnessed the maximum improvement in hiring trends, the report added.
