No separate entrance exam for engineering, architecture

The government on Friday decided to conduct single entrance test for students seeking admission to engineering or architecture colleges across India, scrapping multiple tests conducted by central agencies, state governments and private institutions.

“The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is advised to ensure that the linguistic diversity of the country. The test shall also be conducted multiple times every year,” the HRD ministry said after clearing a proposal by AICTE.

About AICTE

The All India Council for Technical Education is the statutory body and a national-level council for technical for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development.  It is assisted by 10 Statutory Boards of Studies.

Single entrance test is the brainchild of HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

AICTE has been asked by HRD Ministry to issue suitable regulations under the AICTE Act.
