Manish Sisodia Urged Anil Baijal to Clear File on Guest Teachers

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today urged Lt Governor Anil Baijal to clear a file that would enable the Delhi government to give regular jobs to around 17,000 guest teachers.

The Delhi Assembly had last October passed a Bill, which is now in the LG's office, on the matter.

In a letter to Baijal, Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, requested him to pass the file or give his consent to another government proposal on according "weightage" to guest teachers when the hiring process is on.

"If the Bill is approved by you, then we shall immediately have 17,000 regular teachers. May I, therefore, request your excellency to expedite the decision on the file with regard to the Bill for regularisation of guest teachers," he said in the letter.

He said it would be a "grave injustice" to guest teachers if their jobs were not regularised, or if they were not given a preference in the recruitment process.

"It would be grave injustice to the guest teachers if you do not give them a path to regularisation; that is if you neither grant consent to the Bill for regularisation of services nor accept the proposal for weightage to be granted to the guest teachers," he said.

Sisodia said he would like to request the L-G to accept either of the two proposals well in advance of December 20, the date fixed for an advertisement for teachers by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board.
