JNU bags Visitor’s Award for best central university

New Delhi

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has won the Visitor’s Award for best central university, leaving behind all the nine other competitors.

While central universities such as Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Central University of Rajasthan gave their respective nomination for the best university category, President Pranab Mukherjee will hand over the award to JNU vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar on March 6.

Dr Deepak Pant of Himachal University has won the Visitor’s Award for innovation and Professor Shyam Sundar of BHU and Professor Niranjan Karak of Tezpur University have jointly won the award for research, reports The Indian Express.

Jawaharlal Nehru University is a public central university in the national capital. In 2012, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council gave the university a grade of 3.9 out of 4, the highest grade awarded to any educational institution in India.
