Jamia Signs MoU with ITDC; Offers New Courses in Hospitality Sector

A three-year Bachelors of Vocation in Food Production and One-year Diploma in Hospitality programme will be offered from the ensuing academic year by Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

An MoU in this regard was signed by JMI Registrar, A P Siddiqui (IPS) and ITDC Director (Commercial and Marketing) Piyush Tiwari today at the university in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Talat Ahmad and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Shahid Ashraf . From the ITDC side, it’s Chairman and Managing Director, Ravneet Kaur (IAS) and other senior officials were present.

As per the MoU, JMI entered into collaboration with ITDC to bring about a strategic alliance for capacity building and knowledge-based initiatives in tourism and hospitality sectors. 

The Department of Tourism, Hotel, Hospitality and Heritage Studies, JMI and the Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management would play lead roles in the execution of the given MoU.

Speaking on the occasion, Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, JMI said that the Government of India’s emphasis on institution-industry linkage would stimulate creative industry and economy. 

Thanking ITDC for coming forward for academic-cum-training cooperation with JMI, Ahmad pitched for greater placement opportunities for young students through rigorous interface between educational institutions and industry.

Kaur said that the MoU was a great step forward towards skill development in the sector as it would open-up a plethora of opportunities for young students besides consolidating the much needed academia-industry linkage.

MoU signing ceremony was attended by Amirul H Ansari, Director, Centre for Management Studies, Mukesh Ranjan, Coordinator, International Relations Office, Nimit Chowdhary, Department of Tourism and Hotel Studies, Deans and other dignitaries and officials from the partnering institutions.

The collaboration between the two premier institutions of the country is expected to give necessary impetus to the sectors of tourism and hospitality.
