Nearly 10 Indian kids, between the age group of 12 and 17 years, will make it to the nomination list of International Children's Peace Prize 2017.

While the award ceremony will be held on December 4 this year, the International Children's Peace Prize is presented every year to a child who fights courageously for children's rights.

“You don't need to conform to a religion or speak a particular tongue to be educated; interest and curiosity to learn is enough to acquire knowledge,” said the youngest of all nominees, 12 years old Sakthi.

The boy hails from the nomadic Narikuruvar community and spearheaded a campaign that resulted in 25 tribal children joining school.

After quitting school, he had resorted to begging on streets and selling accessories at traffic signals for a living. His life took a turn when an NGO, ‘Hand-in-Hand’, approached Sakthi and his family and convinced him to join a training programme partially managed by the government’s Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan and conducted at Residential Special Training Centre (RSTC) in Poongavanam, reports yourstory.com.

Meanwhile, Shailendra, 17 year, has emerged as the young crusader against child marriage and child labour. She has been successful for bringing 33 children back to schools.
