IGNOU Conducts Workshop on Research and Innovation: The Road Ahead

IGNOU's National Centre for Innovation in Distance education (NCIDE) in conjunction with university's Research Unit is conducting a seven-day workshop on Research and Innovation: The Road Ahead for the research scholars of IGNOU.

The workshop started yesterday on 19th, March'2018 with the opening remarks by Moumita Das, Assistant Director, NCIDE gave a brief introduction about the workshop.
She also outlined the workshop's specific objectives, which are to:

- Impart the skills of research methodology, IPR issues in research, research ethics and academic writing and editing.

- Generate awareness among the research scholars about the various aspects of creativity and innovation. 

Das outlined the various sessions that the workshop would cover.

Setting the tone of the workshop, in her address to the researchers, Bijaylaxmi Mishra, Deputy Director, Research Unit and Workshop Coordinator said that the workshop aims to provide the researchers with the necessary training for undertaking research in their respective subjects.
 
The university has more than 1500 research scholars pursuing PhD and MPhil programmes and the workshop would help foster awareness about research, innovation and creativity among the research scholars so they become skilled in originating new ideas and are sensitised about appreciating others' novel ideas, Manoj Kulshrestha, Director, NCIDE said in his inaugural speech. 
 
Citing importance of research and innovation for any society, S B Arora, VC, IGNOU in his presidential address said that it is imperative to constantly develop knowledge.

He complimented NCIDE and Research Unit for conducting such a workshop. He also interacted with the researchers to ascertain their needs which the university can fulfill.

He urged the faculty present there to have more of such workshops incorporating the feedback given by the participants. 

Kaustuva Barik, Director, Research Unit in his lecture cautioned the researchers against the tendency of researchers to set too many objectives or a too broad an objective.

He advised them to have a specific and very well defined objective with maximum two-to-three sub-points.

He also emphasised on choosing the right sample and treating it with right set of statistical tools to arrive at a meaningful and not necessarily a desired conclusion.

The seven-day workshop would have sessions on relevant topics for researchers covering wide range of different subjects pertaining to research including; research design, data collection, data analysis, sampling, ethics, writing and editing, innovation, leadership and change etc.
