Foundation Day Celebrations started at Jamia

A two-day cultural programme to celebrate the 98th Foundation Day of Jamia Millia Islamia began today at the university.

The programme started with NCC cadets presenting a guard of honor to the Vice-Chancellor (Officiating) Prof Shahid Ashraf who also unfurled Jamia Millia Islamia flag.

A special song dedicated to the JMI flag was played during the unfurling ceremony.

Jamia Middle School Principal Mohammed Mursaleen welcomed the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shahid Ashraf, Registrar A.P Siddiqui (IPS), teachers and parents of the students inside the university auditorium.

Tiny Tots of Mushir Fatima Nursery School performed on a song before the audience.

Jamia Sr Secondary School students sang Jamia's anthem during the ceremony.

Addressing the audience Vice Chancellor Prof. Shahid Ashraf said, “Jamia’s development is marked by sacrifices made by the staff and students and a host of individuals who contributed to the myriad efforts. He traced the history of the university and said that over the 98 years the university has been benchmarking its teaching and research processes by increasing its interface with foreign educational institutions through faculty exchange, students exchange, joint-research, joint-conference, and joint-publications.”

Prof. Ashraf also mentioned that the university has made tremendous progress in providing higher education and research output which is reflected in Jamia, getting higher rankings both nationally and internationally.

He emphasized “JMI will be completing 100 years of its existence in 2020 and we need to keep growing from strength to strength. We seek the support of all the stakeholders to make JMI truly a transformative institution, both nationally and internationally.” He asked everyone associated with the university to work hard to take it to greater heights.

During the two-day festival (October 29 & 31, 2018) students are participating in various cultural programs, variety programs, stage plays, Nukkad Natak, baitbaazi, quiz competition.

The inaugural function of 98th Foundation Day celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Naved Iqbal, Dean. Students Welfare, JMI.
