M Visvesvaraya is remembered as one of the greatest Engineers of the world. He was awarded India’s highest honour, Bharat Ratna in 1955.
Sir MV is credited with constructing several engineering marvels in India such as the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Karnataka, flood protection system in Hyderabad, etc.
He also laid the foundation stone of the government engineering college in Bengaluru in 1917. In his honour, the college was later renamed as Visvesvaraya College of Engineering.
This year, the theme of Engineers Day is ‘Digital Transformation: A new industrial revolution’.
Digital transformation requires strong leadership and vision. All kinds of businesses can experiment with digital transformation as well as make a benefit out of it. The way individuals work and collaborate, within the organization the way business processes are run or the way a company serves customers. Technology offers a lot of opportunities. It will not be amazement if we hear an engineering student say that he doesn’t know about engineering day as there are not enough colleges who celebrate this day for people to know. On this specified day for engineers schools and colleges should keep seminars or special programs. This will spread awareness and maybe there will be more people who will celebrate this day next year.
Engineering day also ensures to make people realize that how engineers have changed the look of our country. If we have a look around us we will find many things which are a contribution of engineers - computers, building, watch, etc.
