Marking the the 156th birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the exemplary engineer on Social Networking Site. 

"Tributes to Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary. An exemplary engineer himself, he is a source of immense inspiration," tweeted PM Modi. 

"I salute all engineers on #EngineersDay & appreciate their paramount role in the development of our nation," he further tweeted. 


"Remembering M. Visvesvaraya ji on his birth anniversary & extending best wishes to engineers on #EngineersDay," tweeted Union Minister Smriti Irani. 

About Sir Visvesvaraya

Sir Visvesvaraya is the key person behind many iconic constructions of India.was an acclaimed engineer recognized for his mastermind in harnessing water resources.

Date Of Birth: 
Sir Visvesvarayya was born on September 15, 1861, to Srinivasa Sastry and Venkachamma at Muddenahalli village in Kolar district of Karnataka. 

Career: 
Sir Visvesvarayya began his career as an Assistant Engineer with Public Works Department (PWD) at Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1884 and was later requested to join the Indian Irrigation Commission.
He received the prestigious Bharat Ratna in 1955.
