Dehradun Literature Festival to Start From April 22


More than 25 authors and eight publishers from across the country will participate in the city''s first literature festival, beginning here on April 22.

Nazia Izzuddin President of World Integrity Centre (WIC), India, said that this will be first of its kind literary carnival taking place in Dehradun. Authors from all over the country will participate and share their work.   

Igniting a passion among youngsters for books and stimulating their interest in their great literary and cultural heritage is one of the principal objectives of the programme, she said, according to PTI.

"Being the main education hub in North India, Dehradun should hold more such literary festivals to broaden the mental and intellectual horizons of future generations, Izzuddin said, adding that though it may be a humble beginning the next edition of the event will be held on much larger scale.

Some of the most renowned authors of the country are taking part in the festival making it the biggest ever literature festival of the city, Vice President WIC India Mukta Khandelwal said.

He said the event will include book fair, reading sessions, panel discussions and stand alone sessions by authors.

Some prominent authors participating include Nayantara Sahgal, Humra Quraishi, Chetan Narain, Ashwin Sanghi, Omair Ahmad, Sumedha Mahajan, Sanil Sacchar, Swapna Liddle, Kota Neelima, Dev Lahiri and Ranjit Lal.

In the opening session, authors Ranjit Lal and Dev Lahiri will deliberate on why imagination is more powerful than knowledge.

Roshen Dalal, Mona Verma and Swapna Liddle will talk about literature and history.

On the second day, Nayantara Sahgal and Kota Neelima will talk about religion and politics, Izzuddin said.

The event is being organised by WIC, India in association with Harvard Club of India and Springhead Communications.
