Mamata wants online admission in colleges
There should be online admissions in all colleges to bring in more accountability and transparency in admission, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.

"We have started e-governance and even e-procurement and now we should have online admissions in all colleges so that there is credibility, transparency and accountability in admissions,"Banerjee said after laying the foundation stone of the second campus of Presidency University in Rajarhat.

She said with e-admissions students would be able to get admissions while sitting in the comfort of their homes.

Stressing how the government has given importance to education in the state, the chief minister said in less than three years time plans were finalised for 31 colleges, while earlier only 38 colleges had come up.

She said it was also planned to give the nod to six new universities, including two private ones.

The four government varsities would come up in Cooch Behar, Bankura, a women''s university in Diamond Harbour and Nazrul Islam university in Asansol.
