University Grants Commission has approved the proposal to extend the status of Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area (CPEPA) till March, 2017 to the Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (IIHS) at Himachal Pradesh University.
The UGC also provided an assistance of Rs seven crore to the HPU, Director IIHS, Prof Rajinder Singh Chauhan said.
The grant will help in strengthening infrastructure facilities of the Institute for effectively running present and proposed academic programmes and setting up of Himalayan Heritage Museum, he said.
The IIIHS, set up in 2002, has so far compiled over 60 status reports, completed over 100 research projects, compiled more than 15 data bases, published 36 books and printed nearly 100 monographs.
