Hiring foreign faculty will help Indian varsities' rankings
Stressing on restricting politics within university campuses to debates and discussions, West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan Tuesday said bringing in faculty from abroad would catapult Indian varsities to the 'Top 100' global rankings.

"It's all over the world (the model)...of hiring faculty from outside...if that happens, then we would figure in the 'Top 100'," Narayanan told reporters on the sidelines of the 58th annual convocation of the Jadavpur University here.

Narayanan, who is the (ex-officio) chancellor of the Jadhavpur and 13 other universities in the state, emphasised the importance of observing discipline and restraint.

"Need to strengthen discipline and observe restraint is a necessity. Politics within campuses if limited to debate and discussions is worthwhile and important...but it should not lead to disruptive tendencies."

He strssed on inclusivity in education and said that it should not compromise on quality.
