President Pranab Mukherjee has given the go-ahead to the HRD Ministry for conducting an inquiry into allegations of irregularities against Jamia Millia Islamia University authorities.
"There have been some allegations of irregularities. The Ministry has written to the President, who is the visitor of central universities, to allow an inquiry into them. The President has given his assent to an inquiry which will be conducted by the UGC," a source said.
A former faculty member of the varsity had leveled allegations of administrative irregularities against the varsity authorities.
He had alleged that the Jamia authorities incurred wasteful expenditure during a visit by a team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
