Inaugurating the PhD portal, the Vice-Chancellor said that it fulfils a major mission of his administration towards digitisation and paperless functioning of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the PhD portal will increase efficiency and transparency as well as save the candidates’ time.
He requested the Deans to conduct faculty-wise training to help teachers become well-versed in using the portal efficiently from this academic session.
Ahmad said that he was happy to note that JMI had not only digitised the entire admission process but has also increased the regional diversity of its students by conducting entrance exams at seven centres across the country.
The digitisation of the admission process has enabled students from far-flung and rural areas to apply to the university with ease.
After submitting the thesis, PhD candidates will be issued an activation code and password by the office of the Controller o the Examination allowing them to log-in to the portal.
Once logged in, the scholars will be required to fill-up a form and upload all necessary documents on the portal.
Once log-in has been successfully done and document submission completed in all respects, the student and supervisor can check the stage of thesis evaluation including whether the external examiners have sent their report to the university or not.
A A A Faizi, Controller of Examinations, said that there was a demand for a portal like this by PhD scholars presently they find it hard to track the progress of their thesis from their hometowns or places of employment.
Now that all information is available online, they will save their time and energy lost in coming to the university to find out about the progress on the evaluation of their thesis.
Ahteshamul Haque, Hony. Assistant Controller of Examinations said that the portal will prove to be an invaluable tool for supervisors.
He said that almost all examination and evaluation works were already happening online and an icon for PhD will be added to the log-in pages already being used by teachers for evaluating graduation and post graduation level courses at the university.
Even the enumeration bill will be auto-generated once the examination copies have been evaluated and mark uploaded, he added.
Others present at the inaugural function included Finance Officer JMI, Sanjay Kumar, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Centres and Heads of Departments and other faculty members and staff of the university and the office of the CoE.
