The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE 2020 will introduce a new paper for Biomedical Engineering.

IIT Madras has issued a statement which reads, “This is expected to unify undergraduate syllabus of Biomedical Engineering among several universities, and to help to stimulate the growth of BME research and product development in India.” 
Last year IIT Madras organised the GATE exam.

Till now the GATE examination is conducted for more than 20 subjects. The Indian Insitute of Technology (IIT), Delhi will conduct the GATE 2020 on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020.

The GATE examination will now be conducted on 25 subjects including Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering among other subjects.

The GATE 2020 online applications will begin from September 3, 2019. The notification and details for the same will be released on the official website, gate.iitd.ac.in. However, the online application process will be concluded on September 24, 2019.

"This is a boon for everyone working in healthcare in India. This has potential to make the Biomedical Engineering as the most sought-out program in India as in other parts of the world," says Prof. M. Manivannan, Biomedical Engineering Group, Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras on speaking about the importance of this new GATE paper in Biomedical Engineering.
