Home Minister has proposed the revocation of Article 370 which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Internet services from schools and colleges got closed. The exams have been postponed. Section 144 has been imposed in many places. This is because the government wants to remove Article 370 and 35A applicable for years.
Does the question arise that what will be the changes happen in Jammu and Kashmir after removing the Article? Why are there so much of ruckus?
The provisions of Article 370 have been in Kashmir since November 17, 1952.
The Article gives some rights and facilities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its citizens, which is different from other parts of the country. If the government removes Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, then all those rights to the citizens here will be lost. Know the important things that will get change.

- The citizens of Jammu and Kashmir have dual citizenship. This state also has its own flag. Revoking 370 will take away these things.
- Not respecting National flag or national symbol is not a crime in Jammu and Kashmir. But with the removal of 370, like other parts of the country, these activities will be considered as a crime.
- Supreme Court orders are currently not valid in Jammu and Kashmir. Later, the citizens will also have to accept the orders from the Supreme Court.
- The law of the Centre cannot be enforced without the consent of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in other matters except defence, foreign affairs and communications. But after Article 370 removal, the central government will also be able to implement its laws there.
- Currently, the term of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is 6 years. As per Article 370, the term of the Assembly will be done for 5 years even in all other states.
- Presently, Hindu-Sikh minorities do not get 16 per cent reservation in Kashmir. With the removal of Article 370, minorities will get the benefit of reservation there too.

What will change in the Valley with the removal of Article 35A?
- Through Article 35A, the rules of permanent citizenship of Jammu and Kashmir and the rights of citizens are decided.
- According to this constitution, only those who lived in the state and acquired property there for 10 years or before 14 May 1954, have been declared as permanent citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. These residents have exclusive rights.
- Permanent residents have the right to buy land, get government jobs, and take advantage of government schemes. Outsiders/others do not have the right to buy land here, get government jobs, enrol in institutions.
- If a woman from Jammu and Kashmir marries a person from any other state of Bharat, her rights are lost. But this is not the case with men.
By changing the Article 35A from Jammu and Kashmir, these rules can be changed.
- A citizen of the country will be able to buy land in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, will be able to do a government job, and will be able to enrol in higher education institutions.
- In Jammu and Kashmir, discrimination between women and men will be over.
- Any person can settle in Kashmir.
