Tamil Nadu Rain Update: The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for schools in five districts following heavy rain in the state. Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, November 20, in Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Tiruvarur districts.

This apart, schools in Kanniyakumari and Pechiparai areas of Kanyakumari district will also remain closed due to continuous rain. While schools and colleges in Karaikal were closed, authorities in Thoothukudi announced a holiday for schools only, with colleges functioning as usual. Earlier, school holidays were announced in Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi, and Karaikal districts on Tuesday, November 19.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate rainfall is forcasted across Tamil Nadu for the next five days. The IMD has also issued a rain alert.

With the northeast monsoon intensifying, authorities in the Delta and southern districts are on high alert, urging residents to remain cautious. The state has already witnessed heavy overnight rainfall, with delta regions recording substantial precipitation.

Since its onset in October, the northeast monsoon has delivered widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu's northern and delta regions, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram.

Meanwhile, the heavy rains have caused significant disruptions, particularly in the delta and southern regions. Roads in affected areas are waterlogged, and daily life has been impacted.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of the state. Authorities are on high alert and have deployed disaster management teams to monitor flood-prone areas. Residents are advised to stay cautious and avoid waterlogged areas.
