The prestigious engineering institute of India IIT is planning to make it easier for students of IIT BTech to drop out the course. The students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) who are unable to bear the burden of BTech education or are weak in the studies can opt for this scheme.

IIT is bringing the option of dropping out of the course for such students. Under this, students who could not bear the burden of studying B.Tech and get failed will have the option to leave that course.

Such students will then be shifted to BSc Engineering courses. This issue will be discussed in the Council meeting to be held at IIT Delhi on September 27, 2019.

Why IIT has to take this decision?

According to media reports, Every year about three thousand students fail in the first semester of BTech in IITs. IIT gives them a chance to test again, but due to stress, few students are able to succeed. Such students are not able to enrol anywhere after being expelled from the IITs. Dozens of students commit suicide every year due to stress.

IIT management is planning to shift such students to the second semester of B.Sc engineering from this session. This degree program will include six semesters. If all 23 IITs agree on this in the council meeting, then this scheme will be implemented from this session.

Apart from this, there will also be a proposal to extend one year with a scholarship to weaker students of reserved category. There will also be a discussion on the case of fall in the rankings of IIT institute.

2461 students dropped out in two years

The Ministry of Human Resource Development recently released a report regarding IITs. According to the report, In the last two years, 2461 students of IITs left their studies in between. The main reason behind the drop out was understanding of syllabus, stress and job.
