Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Saturday, January 29, 2022 stated that the decision to reopen schools will be taken after consulting the experts and reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the state thoroughly. Notably, the Madhya Pradesh state government had declared closure of schools and hostels for Classes 1 to 12 from January 14 until January 31, 2022 due to snowballing Covid cases in the state.
Chief Minister Chouhan made the aforementioned statements while reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the state on Saturday, January 29, 2022. During this, he informed that the Covid-19 cases were declining in the state, especially in major cities like Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur. He continued by saying that the hospitals of the state are witnessing a reduction in the number of Covid patients now.
Thereafter, he added that the decision to reopen schools will be taken after considering the Covid-19 situation in the state and seeking experts' opinion on the same. Only after complete deliberation, the schools will be opened.
He then went on to say that possibly, the Covid-19 cases will start dipping by February 15, 2022. "Though there is nothing to worry about, the administration should adhere to Covid-appropriate behavior and mandatorily follow the wearing of masks", the CM said.
During the meeting, senior health officials informed that 72 Covid-19 patients are admitted on oxygen beds currently, while 150 of them are admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in the state. It is noteworthy that Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, registered 8,678 fresh Covid-19 cases, pushing the state's infection tally to 9,50,134.
