Indian Institute of Management Calcutta has become the first IIM to achieve the AACSB accreditation in business programmes, giving a global recognition it its students and helping it to attract more foreign faculty to its campus.
The coveted Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation has been earned by less than five per cent of the world''s business programmes.
"It's a global benchmark and the top ones have such recognition. It brings global recognition to the institute. It also opens up a huge job market internationally as it becomes easier for students to get recognised outside because there is no question about quality," said Dean, Academics, at IIM Calcutta Anindya Sen.
IIM Calcutta will also have the scope to get more foreign faculty members to teach students and collaborate globally on areas of research.
"There is a huge amount of networking which is possible after this accreditation. The moment you get accredited, faculty from other B-Schools will be much more willing to come up," Sen said.
According to him, it took two years for IIM Calcutta to get the accreditation from AACSB, a global nonprofit membership organisation of educational institutions, businesses established in 1916.

AACSB provides its members with a variety of products and services to assist them with the continuous improvement of their business programs and schools.
IIM Calcutta has already been accredited by Association of MBAs and is a member in India of Community of European Management Schools.
