Jobs for 12th Pass: There are many students who decide to make their career only after 12th. If you are also one such student who has passed 12th and are looking for an exciting career that includes a combination of adventure, teamwork and service to your country, then joing the Indian Navy would be the best option for you. In which, you will get two career options, Indian Navy and Merchant Navy.

Career can be made in both the fields after 12th. While the Indian Navy works for the defense of India, the Merchant Navy involves the transportation of goods and passengers for commercial benefits. Different selection processes and eligibility criteria have been set to join these. 


■ How to start
To join the Navy, you must pass 12th with subjects like English, Maths, Physics. However, Arts and Commerce students can join the Indian Navy as Sports, Musician and Matric Recruit (Chef Steward / Sanitary Hygienist) through written test, music ability test and medical test. For Merchant Navy, IMU CET entrance exam, interview and medical test are required.


■ NDA and INA
UPSC conducts NDA exam twice a year. NDA is the initial stage to become a Navy officer in the Indian Army. This exam consists of a written exam, interview by SSB and medical test. If you have an NCC certificate, you can get some relaxation in the recruitment process. To join this, the age of the candidates should be between 16.5 to 19 years.


■ 10+2 (B.Tech) Direct Recruitment
Applications are also invited twice a year for 10+2 (B.Tech) Direct Recruitment. Candidates with 70% marks in PCM subject in class XII and JEE (Main) rank can apply for INA Officer post in Indian Navy. Call-up for Service Selection Board (SSB) is issued only on the basis of rank list of JEE (Main).


■ Merchant Navy is also a better option
If for some reason you could not get selected in the Indian Navy, then do not worry. Merchant Navy is also a better option. You can choose courses like Diploma in Nautical Science or BSc Nautical Science in Deck Department and BTech Marine Engineering in Engine Department through entrance examinations like IMUCET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) and All India Merchant Navy Entrance Examination (AIMNET).

Based on good performance in entrance examination, medical examination and interview, you can join counseling and training program. After being selected, you will also be given practical training in ships or maritime institutes in pre-sea training.
