While on August 19, the patent had been purchased by the French Government and declared the invention as a gift “Free to the World.”

The first selfie was clicked by American Robert Cornelius in 1839, by setting the camera up and running into the frame. On the back of the picture, he wrote “The first light Picture ever taken 1839”.

However, Daguerreotype wasn’t the first permanent photographic image. Earlier in 1826, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, commonly known or referred to simply as Nicéphore Niépce captured the earliest known permanent photograph known as “View from the Window at Le Gras”. He captured the photo using a process called heliography.

In 1861, the first durable colour photograph was taken by the Thomas Sutton taken through red, green and blue filters.

The first digital photography was taken in 1957, nearly 20 years before Kodak’s engineer invented the first digital camera.
