The guidelines for the pending examinations and other academic activities along with an academic calendar for the next academic session and admissions as been released by the national education regulator, University Grants Commission (UGC).
The guidelines have been released as the universities and colleges across India are closed from March in order to arrest the spread of Coronavirus.
To suggest guidelines to conduct examinations and also to formulate an academic calendar for the future in view of the time lost due to the closure of higher educational institutions in the country, The UGC had appointed two expert committees.
Some General UGC Exam Guidelines:
- Taking into consideration the issues pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic, the universities may chart out its own plan of action. Hence the UGC guidelines are advisory in nature.
- Regarding the pending university exams, the examinations for terminal semester students will be conducted in the month of July 2020. Whereas the students of the intermediate semester will be graded on the basis of an assessment of the present and previous semester.
- New colleges sessions for the current students will reopen in the month of August 2020, and for the students of the new batch will begin from September.
- Keeping in view the support system available with them and ensuring the fair opportunity to all students, the Universities may adopt efficient and innovative modes of examinations by the reducing the time from 3 hours to 2 hours or conducting the exam in offline mode or online mode, as their ordinances or rules and regulations, scheme of examinations, observing the guidelines of "social distancing".
- For the students of M.Phil. or Ph.D., an extension of six month period has been allowed and the universities may conduct the Ph.D. and M. Phil. Viva -Voce examinations through video conferencing using Google, Skype, Microsoft Technologies or any other reliable and mutually convenient technology.
- In the case of intermediate semesters, the practical examinations may be conducted during the ensuing semesters. whereas for the other semester students, the universities may conduct the practical examinations and Viva-Voce Examinations through Skype or other meeting apps.
- Alternative modes of admission process can be adopted by the Universities for admission.
- For the Educational institutions located at places where the restrictions on gathering of the public have been imposed by the Government (Centre/State).
