Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha has been appointed as the working president of Janata Dal (United), also called JD(U). According to reports, Bibar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) on Saturday elected Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha as the working president of the party.
 
While the decision was taken at the party's national executive meeting that took place in Delhi, the meet was called to also review the current political scenario and preparations for the upcoming Bihar assembly polls due in 2025. It is learnt that Bihar CM Kumar, one of the crucial partners in the NDA-ruled Centre, had also sought a special financial package from the central government for the state.
 
"Two important proposals were passed during the party's national executive meeting today. Party's national president CM Nitish Kumar has decided to make Sanjay Jha party's working president. It was also decided that JD(U) will remain with the NDA," Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI.
 
Early life and political career

 
Sanjay Kumar Jha, also known as Sanjay Jha, was born on December 1, 1967. He is an Indian politician who served as Minister of Water Resources and Information and Public Relations departments in Bihar Government.
 
This apart, he was also Member of Bihar Legislative Council. In February 2024, he was elected unopposed as  Rajya Sabha Member to JD (U) in place of Bashistha Narain Singh from Bihar. Earlier, Nitish Kumar had taken over the reins of his party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. At the national executive of the party in December 2023, Nitish Kumar was elected president after the then-incumbent chief Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh stepped down.
Lalan Singh is currently serving as Union minister of fisheries and animal husbandry in the newly formed Modi Cabinet.
