Many candidates for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG), who are slated to take the test on July 17, approached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday to request that the authorities postpone the competition. According to the petitioners' attorney, the plea was heard by a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad and was set for hearing on Thursday.
The petitioners, who are asking for the entrance exam for undergraduate medical and dentistry programmes to be cancelled, said that a fresh notification rescheduling the examination date should be issued by the authorities after addressing their grievances.
“This Hon'ble Court may graciously be pleased to issue any writ/directions in the nature of Certiorari or Mandamus directing the respondents to set aside the examination schedule July 17, 2022, of NEET-UG 2022 examination as mentioned in the notification dated April 6, 2022, issued by respondent no. 1/national testing agency,” the petitioner said. “Direct the respondents to issue a fresh notification rescheduling date of NEET- UG 2022 examination after considering the grievances raised by the petitioners by way of written representations dated May 12, 2022, and July 8, 2022,” it added.
The petition additionally requests that "NEET-UG Phase 2" be performed by the authorities after taking into account the "large distance" that certain applicants must travel to particular test locations since the country is dealing with "the current extreme situations caused by floods." The petitioners also ask for the creation of a complaint-redressal structure to address any concerns and issues brought up in relation to the test in a timely way.
