While the initial date for the holiday was set for July 18, it has been rescheduled to July 17 due to the sighting of the moon. This holiday will be observed by all government and private schools, with classes resuming after the festival. The Education Department has issued a notice regarding the temporary closure of schools.
Kerala
The Kerala government has published the 2024 public holiday schedule, confirming that Muharram will be observed as a public holiday. In light of the festival, all schools and colleges will be closed on this day. However, the government has cautioned that the date is subject to change based on the sighting of the moon.
