As part of Swachchta Pakhwada, Dr Zakir Husain Library, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) organised “Dengue/Chikungunya Awareness Programme”.
Abdul Malik, Joint Registrar was the chief guest at the function held yesterday which was attended among others by HJ Abidi, University Librarian, Irshad Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer, Tokeer Ahmad, Coordinator of Swachhta Pakhwada, NR Tuli, Dy Health Officer, SDMC and a large number of students and staff members.
Malik emphasised that more concentrated efforts should be made by Jamia fraternity as well as concerned Government agencies to prevent spread of such diseases. Abidi who welcomed the guests gave an outline.
NR Tuli gave a presentation on “Prevention and Control of Vector borne Diseases”. He urged the people to keep their places and surroundings clean. He also briefed about the efforts being put by the Government of India to prevent and control the diseases.
The SDMC team also gave a live demo of how to recognize the mosquito larva that causes dengue and chikungunya and how it further develops into mosquito.
He also urged the university to partner with SDMC through various bodies like NSS to promote awareness about prevention of the diseases in the campus and nearby areas. He offered SDMC’s full help to make JMI mosquito breeding free campus.
Irshad Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer of JMI who was the Guest of Honour, gave a presentation on causes of breeding, symptoms and preventive measures of dengue and chikingunya. He said that precaution was the best measure to prevent the diseases as there was no absolute medical treatment for it.
Tokeer Ahmad praised the efforts of Zakir Husain Library for organizing the event in collaboration with SDMC. He also mentioned that JMI has been participating in Swachhta Rankings of MHRD, Govt. of India.
