Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been ranked at 200 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings for Asia with an overall score of 29.5.
The ninth edition of ‘2018 QS World University Rankings: Asia’ featured 400 institutions from 17 countries. According to the QS Ranking website, the scale of the ranking makes the exercise ‘extensive source of comparative, expert data about universities in Asia”.
Ten indicators that included, academic reputation, papers per faculty, citations per paper, staff with PhD, International faculty were employed to rank universities in the Asian region.
Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, JMI said that it is good to see that the university is consistently being positioned highly in international rankings.
Recently, it was ranked among the top 1000 institutions worldwide in the coveted Times Higher Education (THE|) World University Ranking, 2018.
This is an indicator of JMI’s growing international repute and standards.
“The international rankings reflect our efforts to improve key academic and teaching parameters. However, there is room for further improvement to ensure to better place internationally”, Ahmad said adding that at the national level JMI was ranked at the XII position among universities and VI among Central universities in the country by MHRD’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2017.
Shafeeque Ahmed Ansari, Honorary Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), JMI said that “under the leadership of Ahmad, the university has been making efforts for sustenance, assurance and enhancement of the quality of teaching and research geared towards academic excellence. The ranking showed that JMI is moving in the right direction.”
