Mock NExT Exam Cancelled: Important Details

The NMC announced on July 13 that the NExT exam has been deferred until further instructions from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The NExT will serve as a licentiate examination, certifying the eligibility of a medical graduate to practice modern medicine in India. Additionally, it will be the entrance examination for admission to postgraduate medical courses.

AIIMS on Wednesday said, "In this regard, it is hereby informed that as per communication received from NMC and the decision of the competent authority, the mock/practice test of NExT scheduled to be held on July 28, 2023, stands canceled."

The NExT Regulations 2023 state that the exam will be held in two phases: NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2, conducted twice a year.

Last year, the government extended the time limit for conducting the NExT exam until September 2024 by invoking the provisions of the NMC Act. According to the Act, the commission must conduct the common final-year undergraduate medical examination NExT, as specified by regulations, within three years of its enactment in September 2020.
