University of Mumbai allows female students to access library 24X7

New Delhi

University of Mumbai has decided allow female students to access library throughout the day.

While the previous rule prohibited female students from going out of the hostels at night, the university had notified that the library timings at the Vidyanagari campus extended to 24 hours for women students.

According to Free Press Journal, the current rule says all students residing in the hostels are required to get a late pass or a night-out pass, if they intend to reach the hostel after 10pm or spend the night outside, respectively.

“In case they are required to move out of the campus for some reason overnight, they will have to complete a duly filled form and also sign an undertaking that the responsibility for their personal safety and security will not lay with the university during the period when they are away from the campus. They will also fill up the outward movement register each time they go out of hostels after 10 pm,” said the university PRO Leeladhar Bansod.

Earlier, library was open for 24 hours on all days for men and till 10 pm for women.
