UGC Issues Guidelines For Selection Of IoE

In a bid provide a new regulatory structure for enabling higher educational institutions (HEIs) to create place of world class teaching and research, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is all set to declare 20 select places of learning in the country as Institutions of Eminence (IoE). 

While the UGC is preparing the final draft for creating 20 world-class universities, the proposal is likely to go to Cabinet soon.

It is learnt that the government IoE will be free to admit extra foreign students. The institutions will also be free to offer new courses.  

Highlights 
The Institutions of Eminence shall have complete flexibility in fixing of curriculum and syllabus. 
The government has been focussing on creating 20 world class institutions.
