The Punjab government has decided to enable the teaching of the Punjabi language online as part of efforts to popularise it around the world.

A comprehensive roadmap is being chalked out in association with the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) while the government would also rope in Punjab University at Patiala for its mission.

This information was shared by Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema at a meeting here yesterday.

Singh said that the initiative of teaching Punjabi online would benefit those who are desirous of learning the language and staying in tune with their roots. He said that the responsibility for preparing the syllabus for the course has been entrusted to officials of PSEB.

The Minister said that as Punjabi University has done a lot of work on online fonts for Punjabi language, the education department would avail their expertise in this regard. Singh said that a test too, would be conducted for the candidates seeking to learn Punjabi online.
