Performance analysis: Government schools better than private, says ASER

The Annual Status ofEducation Report (ASER) has revealed that performance of government schools is better than private schools.

While the survey based on performance was conducted across 26,393 children in 33 rural districts, 973 villages and 19, 430 households of Maharashtra, MaharashtraEducation Minister Vinod Tawde released state report.

The report pointed out that, in 2016, the percentage of children enrolled in grade III in government schools in the state who can read Grade II level text is 41.2 percent and the percentage of children enrolled in private schools who can read Grade II level text is 38.8 percent.

ASER Centre was established in 2008 as an autonomous assessment, survey, evaluation, research unit with Pratham network. It produces new evidence for action, including the design and facilitation of a national Annual Status of Education Report in addition to a range of other research and assessment projects.
