PhD Mandatory For Assistant Professor’s Post: UGC
PhD Mandatory - PC : Postgrad.com
In a bid to get promoted to the post of Associate Professor, University Grants Commission (UGC) has made Ph D mandatory.

“The period of leave taken for pursuing Research Degree (PhD) shall not be counted as teaching experience for the purpose of direct recruitment/promotion,” pointed out the UGC 2018 Draft Rules.

While the draft has proposed to consider graduation marks, the UGC decision also invited criticism from the various quarters of academia.

According to The Telegraph, some academics called the norms "regressive" and "biased" against the poor and they said "candidates from rural or disadvantaged backgrounds don't often perform well in their graduation and might be affected by the proposed selection formula".
