Trauma care nursing course likely to be introduced soon
The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai is planning to introduce a trauma care nursing course,its Vice-Chancellor Dr D Shantaram said on Sunday.

Considering the high accident rate in Tamil Nadu, there was the need for such a course, to facilitate early treatment and the University is planning to start a specific trauma care course to train nurses, including male nurses, Shantaram told reporters here.

Similarly, it was also planned to start nursing speciality courses in Nephrology and Cardiac treatment for which necessary approvals would be sought soon, Shantaram, here to participate as chief guest for the Graduation Ceremony of Ganga Institute of Health Sciences, said.

 On the necessity for more medical colleges, Shantaram said for India's population, there was need for at least 185 more medical colleges.As part of the vision of Tamil Nadu government, a medical college will be started in each district, he said.

 ESI Corporation, which started a medical college in Chennai recently, is starting a medical college in Coimbatore from next academic year, Shantaram said.
