Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju today laid the foundation stone of the first National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Arunachal Pradesh at its permanent site in picturesque Jote village, near here.
"The creation of NIT has ensured some seats for admission in undergraduate courses for students of Arunachal Pradesh which will bound to uplift economics of locality directly or indirectly and help in enhancing human development index in the state," Raju said after laying the stone.
The institute, which is being run in a temporary campus at Yupia since its establishment in July 2010, is offering undergraduate courses in Computer Science, Electronics & Electrical and Electronics & Computers Engineering.
The Union Minister said, the NITs, which were earlier known as the RECs, have been making excellent contribution in producing trained human resources in the field of engineering.
"In the recent years, we have been working towards restructuring these institutions to play even greater role in the national development and to become world class institutions not only in engineering manpower development but also in the development of new technologies through research and innovation," he said.
Raju, who arrived here yesterday, visited the Rajiv Gandhi University and assured his ministry's support to the infrastructural and academic development of the central varsity.
While suggesting the faculty members and the students to strive harder and influence the colleges and educational institutions around them with their knowledge and skills, he asked them to fit into the larger game plan of 'Look East' policy of the Central government.
