Delhi University has sought suggestions from academicians and experts for amendments in the ordinances for PhD and Mphil Courses following instructions from the UGC to bring certain changes in the rules and regulations.
"UGC had sent updated guidelines for Mphil and PhD courses in July which called for amendments in existing ordinances," a senior university official said.
"We have put up an updated draft of the ordinances on university''s websites seeking suggestions which can be sent till October 5. The Deans of different departments will then have a meeting to review the suggestions," he said.
The varsity had last year amended its PhD ordinance in accordance with UGC Regulation, 2009 (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD degree) and UGC Regulation, 2010 (Minimum qualifications for Appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities and colleges and measures for the maintenance of standards in Higher Education).
While earlier the admission process for PhD programmes varied from department to department, it was made mandatory to admit the students only through an entrance test.
According to the amended norms, following successful completion of the evaluation process and the announcement of the award of the PhD, the University shall submit a soft copy of the thesis to the UGC within a period of thirty days, for hosting the same in ''Shodhganga repository'' which is accessible to all institutions and universities.
The varsity''s move to check plagiarism has drawn ire from few teachers who claimed that to eliminate plagiarism the process should start from the top.
