IITs, NITs to refund acceptance fee if student gives up seat
IITs and NITs will soon refund the acceptance fee after deducting minimal processing charges in case of those students who gave up the allotted seat at the time of counselling to take admission in any other institute, HRD Ministry said on Friday.

The joint seat allocation authority which conducted the common counselling to the IITs, NITs and other centrally funded technical institutes will start refunding the seat acceptance fee along with the central seat allocation board, a Ministry communication said.

HRD Minister Smriti Irani separately tweeted informing about the development.

As per the rules in existence so far, students had to pay a non-refundable seat acceptance fee of Rs 45,000 in general category and Rs 20,000 in SC/ST categories during counselling.

The Ministry reviewed the rule after being flooded with complaints from parents and students.

Under the revised rule, a candidate would get refund after deduction of Rs 1000.
