Delhi University is all set to organise a workshop next month for its students to train them in the area of intellectual property rights by covering concepts such as patent, design and trademark.
According to an official notification, DU is on Nov. 2 going to organise an awareness programme on intellectual property rights in collaboration with the Indian Patent Office (IPO) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
"The generation of intellectual property largely takes place at the state level through small, medium and big industries, academic institutions and individuals. Academic institutions will continue to play an important role in feeding educated and skilled human resource to industries, government, teaching and R&D," it said.
DU said that the day-long programme has been divided into four sessions -- Intellectual Property - Concept, Identification and Creation; Registering your IP; Commercialisation and Tech Transfer-Issues faced by R&D; and Copyright in India.
"There is need for a paradigm shift in the manner that research is done at the universities and emphasis needs to be placed on the practical business realities involved in technology development. The industry-academia interaction is very important for creation and utilisation of intellectual property and technological advancement," said Dr Rekha Chaturvedi, MHRD IPR Chair Professor, DU.

According to DU, any student of DU-affiliated colleges can attend the workshop after first registering themselves free-of- cost for it.
