Alongside the schools, colleges, universities and other polytechnic institutes will also resume academic activities in the state. CM Bannerjee then stated that the decision on making physical classes functional for primary school students will be taken later.
A press conference was organised to address the decision of reopening schools, colleges and other academic institutions in the West Bengal state on Monday, January 31, 2022 in which CM Mamta Bannerjee made the aforesaid announcements. An official order stated, "Schools in West Bengal will become functional for students of Classes 8 to 12 from February 3, 2022 onwards.
In addition to this, colleges, universities and polytechnic colleges will also begin operating in the physical mode from the same date. Classes for the students of primary section until Class 7 will advance in the open-air mode.
Prior to this announcement, Education Minister of West Bengal state Bratya Basu had informed that the Bengal state government is mulling over reopening of schools and colleges, the final call of which will be of the Chief Minister Bannerjee. Owing to the sharply rising Covid-19 cases in West Bengal state, the offline academic activities had to be switched to the online mode again after schools, colleges and universities were shut down.
Various other precautionary curbs were also imposed in the state, which included shutting down of public places like parks, swimming pools and tourist places.
