Union Public Service Commission on Saturday emphasised the need to have uniform procedures and practices for state public service commissions.

Speaking at the 16th national conference of the chairpersons of state public service commissions here, UPSC Chairman D P Agarwal said the PSCs should at least adopt an uniform board, as far as possible on various issues, including disclosure of marks, copy of answer sheet.

The courts will also have a more positive attitude in handling cases of the PSCs in such a case, he added.

However, any rule or procedure framed by a PSC should address the needs of their state as different state PSCs have their own local and regional issues and requirements which are vital while formulating any rule or procedure, he added.

“This conference is aimed at bringing about some uniformity in the functioning of both the Union and the state public service commissions,” he said.

He said the emphasis now in the civil services examination is on testing not only the aptitude of the candidates for a demanding life in the civil service, but also on ethical and moral dimensions.

As many as 20 Chairpersons of public service commissions of different states participated in the conference.
