Following protest from the students demanding changes in the critical year and year back concepts, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has decided to scrap the year back and critical year back system.

While the decision was taken by the Executive Council on Tuesday, the students will be allowed to exit the course with backlogs.

"From this year, for the CBCS scheme (new scheme), we will have 60 marks allotted for Theory Paper and 40 for the Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE). CIE will include components right from the assessments by the colleges. The already existing CBCS students will continue with the 80-20 pattern, there won’t be any change for them," Registrar of VTU, HN Jagannatha Reddy, told Bangalore Mirror.
