The traffic police have issued an advisory for plying of school buses in Jammu and Kashmir, asking them to strictly follow the stipulated guidelines.

As per the advisory, school buses need to be painted yellow, with "on school duty" written on the back and the front of the bus in clearly visible fonts.

The advisory, released by Inspector General of Police (Traffic) Basant Rath, further said buses should have first aid kits, speed governors of specified standard, window grills and fire extinguishers.

School names and telephone numbers must be written on the buses, the doors fitted with good quality locks and a space fitted under the seats to keep school bags, the advisory said.

The traffic department asked school authorities to station attendants on each bus.

The advisory further said drivers should have at least five years of experience of driving vehicles and prohibited those charged with two or more traffic violations from driving these buses.

The vehicles must have appropriate permits from competent authorities as passenger transport vehicles, it added.
