Telephonic interview has now emerged as a yardstick to judge a candidate’s confidence and potentials.
Do you find it difficult to make a call in the English language? Let me tell you that effective phone skills are extremely important because it maintains a level of confidence with the other person you are talking to.
Here are a few ways that will help you to talk over the phone confidently.
Introduction
It will be really disorienting to the caller if he doesn’t know whom he is talking to. So, it is important for you to mention your name. And also make sure that you should also have a nice happy-friendly tone when you answer the call.
Be confident. Mention your name first when you receive after receiving a call from the HR/ Senior officials of a company.
Here is an example.
Interviewer
Hi/ Hello
This is (HR/ Senior officer) from (the prospective company making the call to you).
May I speak to (Your name).
Candidate
Yes, sir. This is (your name) this side.
I was expecting a call from your end.
Clear Tone
Pronounce your words correctly. Use words that make sense to the person you are speaking with. Don’t fumble. Job interviews are difficult whether you are an English learner or a native speaker. If you want to get the job, you need to prepare for the job interview.
Confidence
During a telephonic interview, the interviewer look for is energy and confidence. The interviewer can’t see the interviewee’s face. They can’t read the facial expression. They judge the confidence through the tone of voice of the candidate. The candidate should engage the interviewer over so much that that he should meet you in person and call for the next round of the interview.
Practice
Record voice and listen the tone. Ask yourself if i was in the interviewer’s place then would I listen to the end of this recording. If you are getting bored from your answers then it implies you need to shed some facts from the answer. Make it clear and concise. Always remember, practice makes a man perfect.
Listen
What is the point of conversation when you not listening properly to the person. If you are not listening to the person and not trying listen what he is saying then what you going to answer him. So, it is important for you to listen carefully and understand. Also make sure that acknowledge.
Interruption
Interrupting people can be rude at times. Give the person chance to say and then answer his question. Interrupting a person during a call creates a bad impression and breaks the flow of communication.
Language
Brush up your English language. Try to use good and descriptive language so that it helps the caller to understand what you are talking. You can give example to make the caller understand easily. RJ talking on the radio is clear and audible. Thats what you need to follow too.
Talk about your strength
What are your strengths? This is quite a question the interviewers ask during an interview. Now, here the interviewer is looking how positive the candidate think about himself. There is no right or wrong answer to it. But if you give out one line answer such as ‘I am very friendly person. I love being with people. That just not sounds great for an interview. What the candidate can say is that I totally believe in planning and execution. In fact, when I was in college I organised farewell party for our seniors. And because of down to earth and friendly nature, I am quite approachable. These are my strengths.
Focus
Always answer what is asked and not what you know. Focus on the questions being asked by then answer the exact, perfect and concise answer. Don’t elaborate the answer without any reason. Just answer what is asked.
For example, if the interviewer asks you - Tell me about your hobbies?
The answer should be – I love reading books, watch movies an also do cycling as it helps me in staying fit.
Pronunciation
There is a big difference between speaking English and speaking correct English. Most of the candidates get rejected in an interview because they fail to pronounce words correctly. Therefore, try to speak English with correct pronunciation. To improve pronunciation, one can also watch English news channels, English movies and read newspapers. This apart, he can also practice pronouncing words with perfect diction.
